FAQ’S About Preconception & Fertility Answered By Our Doctors
-
The first appointment typically involves a thorough review of your medical history, including any past pregnancies and sexual health. We’ll assess whether you or your partner need any tests, such as blood work to check immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases or genetic carrier screening, which is now a common part of planning for pregnancy.
You’ll also discuss lifestyle factors and supplements—usually folic acid—tailored to your individual needs. Dr Miranda covers timing for conception as well, helping you understand the best windows for trying to conceive.
Appointments usually last about 60 minutes to ensure everything is covered in detail, giving you the time and space to ask questions and create a personalised plan that suits you.
-
Many people ask if they need to do any tests or preparations before trying to get pregnant, whether their partner should be involved, and if current medications or health conditions might affect fertility.
-
While many patients attend alone, having a partner present is encouraged since family planning involves both people.

For women over 35, it’s usually six months; for those under 35, up to 12 months is typical, but this can vary based on individual circumstances.
