IRON INFUSIONS & IV FLUIDS
At Juno, we offer iron infusions and IV fluids in a calm, private and supportive clinic setting in Richmond, Melbourne.
Iron deficiency is common, particularly with heavy periods, during pregnancy and after birth. It can contribute to tiredness, low energy, breathlessness, poor concentration, hair shedding and restless legs. Iron tablets are usually the first step, and an iron infusion may be recommended if tablets haven’t worked, aren’t tolerated, or your iron levels need to be restored more quickly.
Our doctors also look for the underlying cause of iron deficiency, such as heavy menstrual bleeding or gut-related causes, with support from gastroenterologist Dr Phoebe Thwaites where needed.
We also provide IV fluids for dehydration, including our Nausea & Vomiting in Pregnancy Fluid and Support Stay.
Is an iron infusion right for me?
An iron infusion may be suitable if you have confirmed iron deficiency and oral iron hasn’t worked or has caused side effects, if you have ongoing losses such as heavy periods, or if you are pregnant or postpartum and need iron restored more quickly. Your doctor will explain the benefits, risks (including the small risk of skin staining) and alternatives so you can make an informed decision.
What to expect
Before your infusion, you will have a consultation with one of our doctors to review your symptoms, blood tests and medical history, and to plan your care.
On the day, iron is given through a small drip in your arm in a quiet, comfortable space. We allow extra time so we can monitor you afterwards, and you are welcome to bring a support person.
Your doctor will arrange follow-up blood tests to check how your iron levels respond.
