IUD INSERTION AND REMOVAL

At Juno, we provide IUD (intra-uterine devices) insertion and removal in a supportive, trauma-informed environment.

IUDs are a highly effective tool for contraception and may also help manage heavy periods, pelvic pain, endometriosis, adenomyosis and iron deficiency caused by heavy menstrual bleeding.

Our doctors, Dr Emily Rubinstein and Dr Lucy Ryan have undertaken additional training in IUD insertion. All of our GPs are able to remove IUDs.

Concerned about pain?

We offer inhaled pain relief as standard for patients undergoing IUD insertion. If preferred, we can also facilitate insertion under general anaesthetic.

Our Two-Appointment Process

We use a two-step approach to ensure you feel informed, prepared and supported throughout the process.

Appointment 1: Suitability Assessment and Planning (30 minutes)

During this appointment, your doctor will:

  • Discuss whether an IUD is right for you

  • Review your medical history and any relevant symptoms

  • Explain the benefits, risks and alternatives

  • Develop an individualised pain management plan

  • Provide prescriptions for your IUD and any recommended medications

  • Answer any questions you may have

You will leave with a clear understanding of what to expect and time to review the consent information before your insertion appointment.

By taking the time to plan carefully, we hope you will feel well-informed, safe, and confident before your insertion appointment.

Appointment 2: IUD Insertion (1 hour)

Although the insertion itself usually takes around 10-15 minutes, we allow a full hour so there is plenty of time for preparation, support and recovery afterwards.

On the day:

  • A doctor and nurse will be present throughout the procedure

  • Inhaled pain relief is available

  • You are welcome to bring a support person

  • We will monitor you after the procedure before you leave

Please remember to bring your IUD to your appointment, as we do not keep devices on site.

Our goal is to provide a supportive, compassionate experience and to help you feel as comfortable as possible every step of the way.
